To a certain degree i would have to say that some portions of Humprey's experiment can seem to have been a bit intruding. For me, the part of the experiment where he visits the individuals home posed as some one else does seem like an over step in boundaries. However, i do understand in order to get the results necessary for the experiment that had to be done. Showing how many individuals live a secret life is very much important to know. I ultimately think that this was a good experiment and the professors should not have stopped it from happening.
Humprey's Experiment is also known as Tearoom Trade. It is also a book which is based on his Ph.D Dissertation. He talks about encounters of those persons who are having same physical and mental orientations.
These encounters takes place in public places. It talks about their psychology and their thinking. Sometimes his research methodologies are considered as Unethical. He forced that we should have clear understandings of such encounters for getting quick gratifications and that too in public spaces.
He pulled this point because he had noticed various arrests in USA in this connection. He took it as an interesting subject of study. He took himself a role of watch-queen; whose task was to cough or make sounds on watching any police vehicle.
He secretly followed people in later times. He visited the homes of those persons who were noticed by him. He made queries about their various aspects of life. He wanted to understand the circumstances which were forcing them for such actions.
His findings destroyed many stereotypes. This was the reason that he did not get the support from a wide section of society. I think his work was good. It is a true reality of society. We must be aware of all these. If these are not being discussed then this may reopen in the form of various crimes. To remove the anarchy of the society it is also important to gets some initial anarchy.
