In it all the nodes are joined to a central device called hub or switch

advantages :

a) problems in network can be detected easily

b) we can remove/add nodes easily

c) If any node fails the other nodes still continues to work

disadvantages:

a)whole network goes down if hub or switch fails

b)extra cost because more cables are required

c)extra cost of the hub or switch

The two real life examples are: 1. VoIP 2. GPRS

Packet switching is preferred over circuit switching because it saves time and money.

In packet switching you do not require a costly dedicated channel and instead the packets are sent through cheap networks, which saves money

Time is also saved , because you do not require to time to setup dedicated channels, instead the packets are sent instantaneously.
