Increasingly, the transportation industry is under pressure to reduce transportation time. On-time Delivery (OTD) is an important indicator for most shipping companies. What are the changes/challenges in the transportation industry that can affect the “on-time” delivery of shipments/assets to business/consumers? Answer 1- On time delivery has become an important aspect of any service industry to ensure its quality to the customers and customers only look forward to the companies who can provide them on time or early deliveries. And when it comes to the Shipping companies, it will not be wrong if I say on time delivery is the most prior thing that the customers look for. But there are several challenges that a Shipping industry faces while trying to provide the on- time deliveries to its customers. Some of these challenges are-

(a) Environmental issues- While trying to provide the on-time delivery to its customers, a shipping company faces the environmental issues a lot of time. Adverse social environment like riots, protests, etc and natural environmental issues like heavy rain, flood etc. become an irrevocable challenge for the shipping industries.

(b) Governmental rules and Regulations- Sometimes a sudden change in the Government rules and policies become a challenge for the shipping companies to provide the on-time deliveries as it increase the burden of a lot of documentation to be done by shipping companies before shipping out the products.

(c) Driver Shortage- It is quiet understood that we can not make anyone work forcefully. And it happens a lot of times that drivers do not come because of some personal reasons or deny to go to a specific location at the last moment. It also becomes a hurdle for the shipping companies to provide the on-time deliveries.

(d) Economy- Due to high fuel prices and rising inflationary demands, sometimes it becomes impossible for the shipping industries to meet the customer demand on time as pressure is increase on the shipping companies due to heavy toll taxes, etc.

There are may more factors like this which can hamper the on-time delivery services of a shipping company.
