If you put a wattmeter at one end of a transmission line and another wattmeter at the other end of the same transmission line, would you expect them to give the same reading? Explain.
Also, how about If you put a varmeter at one end of a transmission line and another varmeter at the other end of the same transmission line, would you expect them to give the same reading? Explain.
1) Wattmeter measures active power. Since due to presence of resistance of conductors in transmission lines there will be copper losses in conductors. Due to this there will be difference in wattmeter readings.
2) VAR meter measures reactive power flow. If the line is a flat loaded line then there will be no difference in both meter readings. If the line is uncompensated line then there will be difference in meter readings.
