If the mass is displaced an additional 2.5in and is then set in motion with an initial upward velocity of 1.5ft/s, determine the position of the mass at any later time. Also determine the period (T), amplitude (R) and phase of the motion.

Dear student,

I have used basic concept of SHM. Knowing that the general equation of SHM is X=Asin(wt+). the is there because the particle is not at equilibrium at t=0. we knew both the position and velocity of particle at t=0. Also the particle will be doing shm about equilibrium position. please see image below for full solution.
