A good employee with a nearly flawless attendance record has missed work for 4 days in a row. Her supervisor has called to speak to her (since she has not called in, as required), but gets only her voicemail. Now, the supervisor wants to fire her, but has come to you to ask you to do it. As the Human Resources Manager (you are the person in charge), what should you do?

Answer #1

The employee’s unauthorized absence is a violation of the terms of contract and misconduct. As a Human Resources Manager, I would first conduct domestic enquiry and then issue a show cause letter for the reasons of absence to the last provided residential address that was provided by the employee. If there is no response still, then I would take disciplinary action on him/her based on the service regulations that is applicable to the employee by framing definite charges against the employee. The second warning/show cause letter would be sent to him/her and then finally terminate the employee.
