(a) Calculate the H3O+ concentration in an aqueous solution at 25° C with an OH− concentration of 1.17 × 10^−5 M.

_____________x10_________M

(b) The value of Kw at 100° C is 5.13 × 10^−13. Calculate the H3O+ concentration from the above solution at 100° C.

Answer #1

(a) At 25 oC , value of Kw = 1.00 x 10-14

[H3O+] = Kw / [OH-]

[H3O+] = (1.00 x 10-14) / (1.17 x 10-5 M)

[H3O+] = 8.55 x 10-10 M

(b) At 100 oC , value of Kw = 5.13 x 10-13

[H3O+] = Kw / [OH-]

[H3O+] = (5.13 x 10-13) / (1.17 x 10-5 M)

[H3O+] = 4.38 x 10-8 M
