a)
Answer:
In a steam cycle there are is a demineralising water plant which is also known as DM Plant. The water which is treated in the DM plant is stored in a DM Tank. This water is used in the process of converting to steam and driving the turbine. This water through Boiler Feed Pump (BFP) is sent to boiler. The boiler is continuously under pressure and high temperature. This water than boils and the steam produced passes through steam seperator which ensures the amount of saturated water being carried is less. This steam is than passed through turbine to drive the blades on the shaft of turbine. The first stage of turbine is impulse and the rest are reaction. The turbine shaft is connected to a Barring gear motor which reduces the speed sf output to match the generator's specification. The steam which is very low in energy is sent to condensor. The steam goes into the condesor because there is vaccum inside the condesor. The condesor is a heat exchanger which cools the steam into water. This water is collected into a hotwell tank. A condensate extraction pump pumps the water into boiler feed pump which is again utilised in the process. Water which is lost is make up by the DM tank.
The water before going to boiler from the feed pump goes into an deaerator where dissolved oxygen is lowered in the water to prevent corrosion of turbine blades.
