A breeder would like to determine if there is evidence that the one-year-old-seedlings of a new breed of pine has a mean height greater than 1.8 inches. To study his question, the breeder measured 9 one-year-old-seedlings and found a sample average of 2.2 and standard deviation of 0.4 inches. The breeder thinks it is reasonable to assume that the heights of all the new breeds’ one-year-old-seedlings is approximately normal.

(a) Write and label the null and alternative hypotheses for the breeder’s test.

(b) Compute and label the name of the appropriate test statistic and compute the p value.

(c) Draw a conclusion at a 5% significance level in the context of the question.
