Consider both the pros and cons of the issue and explain your position on fossil fuel divestment at post-secondary institutions in British Columbia
Ans.
In the current world, all of us are facing impact of climate change and British Columbia is no more immune to this. Even lots of other countries are also moving towards this step. There are many campaigns going on around to world for support of divestment of fossil fuels and against climate change some of which are Greta Thunberg, Solar alliance, IPCC reports, Paris peace climate, Montreal Protocol etc. But there is also a critical side of this that says that such type of campaigns led by school students is just a feel good campaign and can not do anything.
Divestment is ofcourse a new concept and we should support it since it is a way to restore fresh air on our planet. Some critics also say that cutting the use of fossils in industries will not solve this problem and will just aggravate it. British Columbian university claimed that more than 12 crore dollars have been spent on fossil fuels, all will go waste if you abandon such industries. But I also support that markets run by demand and if you bring electric vehicles which are more efficient and pollution free, people will surely get attracted towards it. Govt need to provide subsidy for them and in this way, they can incurr the cost they spent on fossils and it won't go waste.
