People often use denotation and
connotation during their conversation with
others.
First let's understand the meaning of both terms.
Denotation means the word whose meaning is given in the dictionary or which have literal meaning.
Whereas, connotation means the additional or
alternative meaning of the word. Something emotional behind the
word.
It is necessary to think before we speak because the word we choose
may have some meaning for us but different meaning for some other
persons. The selection of word is necessary and their wrong
interpretation can give rise to dispute.
For example:- when a person use the word dog, its connotation meaning is faithful and loyal animal whereas it's for some other person it means a creature who can bite you or harm you.
Another example :- some person use childlike words and other use childish word , both word have same meaning. They want to say immature But with different interpretation according to them.
