book: Human Relations and Organizations 10th edition. Reference to chapter 1

Discussion questions:

In chapter one we learn many statistics relating to the importance of human relations. For example, 95% of issues at work are people related vs. 5& technological issues. Also 66% of the time an individual is fired it's because they cannot get along with others. Please comment on these or any other interesting aspects of this chapter. Do not repeat concepts. Be thorough in your answers. Do you agree with these statistics? Did any of them surprise you? please help thank you

It is not surprising that more than 90% of the workplace issues are people related. In an organization, the biggest channel that can ever be faced is when there is insufficient management input or the leadership is unable to control, cater to the needs of and solve the conflicts between the different employees. This is also caused due to the fact that the leadership is unable to comprehend the nature of the relationship dynamics between the people, causing a chain reaction that later on causes a big negative reaction if not managed properly. While it is also shocking to see that more than 60% of the firing takes place due to the inability of the employees to get together, conflict is understandable to some extent. But, the fact that it results in their firing is unprecedented. I would have expected the percentages to be somewhere around 25-35%, not 60%. While I look at this situation, it reminds me of an article I read over HBR, which states that the only conflict at a workplace is a boss conflict and therefore, if we consider that to be the guiding principle behind these numbers, it becomes easier to understand.
