Let us first understand what Affirmative Action is all about when it comes to employment, it is about an employers policy standard on the hiring or recruiting of personnel from the section of society which may not receive equal opportunity at work if not given some sort of priority, e.g. Women, disabled individuals etc. hence it is more of a value based moral responsibility of the organizations to give preferential treatment to these type of individuals and bring them to equal strata of society in general.

However, there are certain issues with such preferential treatment to certain class or group of people which makes the Affirmative Action questionable in current social environment, as such it agains brings back the issues of gender or racial discrimination, and for any performance oriented organizations it becomes imperative to hire a person who is well deserving that position and will be able to perform to the best.

In my views yes in certain cicumstances the Affirmative Action may prove to be a very effective program but it can not be generalized looking at the competitive environment underwhich organizations are operating, however if this program is excercised with limited scope and applicability, it has got all the potential to play a very crucial role in bringing equal opportunity at Job.
