How does data privacy on a mobile device differ from privacy on a desktop application? What are additional steps that should be taken in mobile application security?
Answer)
Data privacy on a mobile device differ from privacy on a desktop
application in such a way that both the devices access and surf the
Internet but our mobile phones consist of our day to day life's
data such as contact lists, call lists, messages, different
applications, bank information, online banking, social life and
much more. We use mobile phones and the Internet on them much more
than we use the desktop and the Internet. Thus, mobile devices
contain much sensitive information and are thus a problem in
privacy rather than the desktop computers which are mainly used for
browser-based internet access stuff which is then again synced to
our mobile devices.
The additional steps that should be taken in mobile application
security are:
a) Always install apps and other applications from the authorized
app store
b) Secure connections and use of encryptions on the mobile
devices
c) Mobile devices should be locked and should use Identification,
authorization, and authentication to verify and unlock the
phones
d) Security software should be installed for additional
security
e) Rooted devices should not be used
f) Updates should be regularly installed
g) Implement VPN to create a secure connection to the company
network
