Conceptual Fluid Statics question: Let us say you are a boat with oars (the paddles used for steering the boat). You are floating on a dam ( the ones that can release water if there is a drought or hold water during floods). The water is currently in equilibrium. This implies that the volume of fluid is constant and no other forces are acting on the large dam of fluid, you can have the dam be a cylinder type shape for simplicity. If I were to drop the oars (the paddles) into the water and these oars sink :
which of these would happen:
1) would the water rise
2) nothing would happen
3) something else
can someone explain and show using conceptual physics of fluid statics (pressure, density, etc) and so on which would occur.
Option 2 is correct
because boat is floating and in order to float it should displace equal weight of water and when an oar drops in water than it will displace same amount of water as it is displacing when it was in boat hence total amount of water displaced will never changes
