2. Scientific Management is the "scientific" approach to processes and management. Also known as "Taylorism", it is a time based approach to management with the view to increasing employee productivity. Its an early departure from the classical/industrialist management model that assigns work tasks to skillsets of employees including prioritising leadership for leaders and managers. Its about designing a "best fit process" for the task at hand and getting everybody to divide the process into time sensitive segments and assign staff best suited to jobs to do their part whilst leaders and managers lead the process overseeing its progress.
Scientific management theory was developed in the early 20th century by Frederick W. Taylor.
Scientific management concepts was developed becuase its approach to management is found in almost every industrial business operation across the world. Its influence is also felt in general business practices such planning, process design, quality control, cost accounting, and ergonomics.
3. old school management is that it is not necessarily the monopoly of older managers. Today’s middle and higher tier managers, brought up under the guidance of more classic old school managers, will often model the behavior of their “successful” elders. In a competitive environment where short-term results are the only real measure of success, the fist hammering, order-barking management style tends to gain quicker immediate returns. Such manners are well considered by the top brass, because it’s the only kind of management that they themselves practiced. In a kinder description, it would be called being driven. In a less kind way, one might call it monstrous obsession.
