Starting with the fact of what utilitarianism is according to the theory of Utilitarianism. It is a moral theory, which advocates or defends the actions or activities that improve the overall happiness or pleasure and critically rejects the activities which causes unhappiness or harm others.This theory is associated with two philosophers naming, John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham.
Now, producing any kind of unsafe products for human beings, animals or environment is considered as unethical in itself. The reason for the same can be analyzed to be the fact that it will ultimately cause harm to others in the society. However, there are many products which are harmful or unsafe to the society and the environment and are knowingly produced by the companies but are not producing any harm directly and are useful in living in today's world. One of the examples for the same are the Gasoline operated vehicles which in long term affect the environment and may cause unhappiness however, are useful and produces pleasure for the users. Companies however, try to produce the technological changes which may cause least carbon footprint.
Utilitarianism defines the things as right or wrong however, a utilitarian may or may not criticize all the companies who knowingly produce products which causes harm in both short and long term uses.
Would a utilitarian necessarily criticize companies who knowingly produced unsafe products? Explain why.
