Union growth can be attributed to the conditions created by the greed and indifference of employers towards workers such as poor work conditions, low wages, discriminatory and suppressive work practices among others, the brunt of which was born by the lowest grade of workers, i.e. those with low skills. These workers were the most affected and vulnerable to such practices and were subject to all kind of oppressions, forcing them to raise their voice collectively for their rights.
Interference and reastraining the employees is an unfair labour practice as long as the association is legitimate, is in interests of the organisation, and directed towards making the workplace more healthy, safe and productive, and organisation more competitive and profitable. However, any collective practices which are driven by vested interests, are subversive in nature and not in interests of organisation or the well being of its employees, must be stopped and an intereference is essential to secure the interests of organisation as well as larger sections of its employees. Intent of organisation is therefore important in determining the legitimacy of association.
