This week, we discussed the change management team and how their primary task is to ensure that any changes needing to take place are easily implemented. Anytime a change needs to be made, the project management team must enact a strategy to make the change. Consider the following scenario:
You are a project manager that has been hired by a computer hardware company that produces computer keyboards. The company is based in Southeast Florida and wants you and your team to facilitate the creation of a new kind of wireless keyboard that runs on a newer, more efficient type of renewable battery. The keyboards need to be produced in one year. However, three months into the project, problems with production begin to arise. The main issue is that the heat within the Southeast Florida region is causing the batteries to malfunction. The company wants to move production to a facility in Kansas. However, the company does not want to change the scheduled deadline for the project’s completion. Also, the project manager informs the company that the move to Kansas will increase the cost and scope of the project. The project manager selects five people from her project team to become the change management team. This team is now responsible for executing the necessary changes for this project.
The theme of this week revolved around the change management team. Reflect back on this week’s discussion with classmates on the scenario about change management, project timelines, and communication. In your own words, address the following prompts:
Your submission should be at least 150 words.
A project manager needs to supervise all the operational activities regarding the cost complexities, scheduling parameters, and communication techniques to ensure on-time delivery.
A project manager handles cost complexities by using the following techniques
• Evaluating consumers buying power: A project manager analyses the buying capability of target consumers to fix the cost of a product. He properly aligns all the operational details with consumers' buying capacity to reduce complexity cost fixing.
• Evaluating suppliers bargain power: Project managers reduce cot complexities by analyzing the bargaining power of local suppliers by choosing the supplier having the least bargain power to set up a reasonable cost of the product.
• Developing supply chain efficacy: The development of supply chain efficacy evaluates target market capability to understand the demand and value of the product to reduce cost complexity.
Project managers control the scheduling parameter by communicating with each member associated with supply chain management. They schedule projects based on the efficiency of project members, market demand, and the effectiveness of the marketing of an organization. Managers maintain a secure communication with project members along with the marketing team to understand their capability of finishing the project. Hence, the project is scheduled based o the final submission and review — clarity in the project scheduling parameter help to deliver a project within the expected deadline.
Communication among various departments of the project and supply chain management helps to ensure on-time delivery. Project managers play a pivotal role in utilizing both verbal and nonverbal communication to improve communication standards among project members.
As per the given scenario, cost management is the biggest challenge to overcome in this scenario. The relocation of this project to Kansas may incur additional costs. It will challenge the organization to arrange the additional relocation cost within the scheduled deadline, which is already expected to release within a year. Thus, the cost management problem should be the biggest challenge for the company.
