Human resource can face many challenges in the small firms.because the firm is very small,sometimes firm has only one HR or the owner/CEO .who is doing all the HR's responsibility.Regardless, small firms owners need to understand the challenges facing by the HR in there firms.Following are the some some HR challenges a small firm face:

1) Attracting the top talent - When the firm is small,sometimes no talented person can work for the firm.because of some reason like no job security,low salary,high work pressure, less management etc.So, it is very difficult for the HR to hire the talented employee for the firm.

Solution - The solution of this challenge is:

  • Firm build the strong employer brand.
  • offer competitive compensation.
  • Design the creative perks and benefits for the employees.
  • Writing the appealing job description.which will attract the top talent.

2) the dispute between lower level employees - Because the firm is small & HR have very limited team.Sometimes dispute between the lower level employees are created like Security guard or unskilled labor.So, it's HR responsibility to settle the dispute so that all the necessary work is going on.Generally, in the big organization it's not HR's Responsibility to handle such disputes.

Solution - Some of the solution to solved the disputes between the lower level employees.

  • Be a mediator between the employees to solve the issue.
  • Hear everyone out,so that you have better understanding about the issues.
  • Take a strict action against the culprit.which will give lesson to everyone.
  • Open the communication for everyone.So, that these kinds of disputes are not create in future.

3) Creating a Quality Employee Experience - Generally, in the small firm it is very difficult to create the quality experience for the employees.because the high work load and low budget of the firm,No HR is able to create a good experience for the employess.For the quality experience a HR should have offer the online training, gym facilities, flexible-time, work-from-home arrangements or other incentives to the employees for there quality experience.

Solution - Some of the solution to solved to give the Quality Employee Experience

  • Communicate with the employees.
  • Celebrate every little moments with employees like - birthdays, month end party, team achievements etc.
  • Removes some barriers and strictness.

4) Employee training and safety - Employee training and safety is very important for any organization.Ones employee is hired, it's firm's responsibility to trained the employee and develop the new skills and decrease the errors in the organization.However, the small firm don't have the time and fund to give the proper training to there employees.which could affect the workplace environment.

Solution - Some of the solution to solved to give the Employee training and safety

  • Try to find and give some online or offline low budget skill development training to the employees.
  • Provide one of the best your employee a good training. who give training to your other employee.Which will save your cost.
  • Open a communication channel for the employees.which will to share the ideas to each other on how to develop the each others skills

5) Limited infrastructure and resources - In the small firm,we have seen many times there is always shortage of resources and infrastructure.which will kill the creativity and motivation of the employee.So, for the HR it is very important to maintain the motivation level of the employee in the small firms & make also maintain the work balance between the employees and the limited resources.

Solution - Some of the solution to solved the Limited infrastructure and resources

  • Borrow or hire the resource in rent for the limited period of time.
  • Outsourcing will helpful

6) Time tracking - Sometimes in the small firm tracking the employees and there work is very strict and very difficult.It is totally depend on the work culture of the firm.To track the employee,HR have solid tracking system to track the employees Vacation, paid leaves, overtime in the organization. Because in every time HR is not available in the firm.So, it is very important for the HR as well as for the firm to have a strong tracking system.which will help the firm to track the employees timing in the firm.

  • Develop or buy the time tracking software, where employee can update there status.
  • Use of technology and data entry will helpful.
