Their are molybdenum enzymes as follow
1) xanthine oxidase (XO).
2) Aldehyde oxidase (AO).
3) MitochondreMi amidoxime- reducing enzyme (mARC1).
Xanthine oxidase is the final enzyme of purin catabolism .converting hypoxanthine and xynthine to uric acid .It produces superoxide anions and hydrogen peroxide .
In those way it may play a role in response to stress .
AO also produced this ROS as it oxidises aldehyde to carboxylic acid ,playing the role in drug metabolism.
The two MARc protein recently discover (2011) and their role are not yet known they do metabolise N hydroxylated compound so, may also play a role in drug metabolism. it may be important that all the moco containing enzyme are able to reduce nitrate and nitrite to NO .
Moco deficient individual have been noted who have lost all ability to make moco or to carry out the activities of moco containing enzymes. Such individual have sevear disability to CNS .Within a few days after birth they experience seizures and neuronal development.The lack of a sulfite oxidase molybdenum enzyme is to be most important deficiency .Sulfite accumulation gives incressi in ROS ,reduction of disulfide bonds through the body and cysteine and glutathione depletion resulting in the un folding of great enzymes .
