A satellite moves in an elliptical orbit around the sun with a period of motion of 400 days. An imaginary straight line joining the satellite and the sun sweeps out an area as the satellite moves in its orbit. Compare the area swept by the satellite for the 10-day period when it is farthest from the sun with the 10-day period when it is closest to the sun.

As per Kepler's second law, the area swept by the satellite for the 10-day period when it is farthest from the sun with the 10-day period when it is closest to the sun will be equal.

The ares swept in both the diagram above is more or less the same. This happens due to the fact that planet is moving a lot faster when it is closer to the sun and lot slower when far away from sun.
