In your own words, explain the difference between management and leadership. As it relates to problem-solving, what would be the disadvantages for management as opposed to leadership when implementing change within an organization?

LEADERSHIP MANAGEMENT
Setting direction and Vision for the team It is about understanding the goals of the company
It is about assembling team and creating shared value It is about prioritizing and assigning the tasks
It is about inspiring members and leading by example It is about motivation and valuing individual contribution
It helps to seek commitment It focuses on coordination and synergy

When it comes to implementing change within an organization, disadvantages of management as opposed to leadership are:

  • It is difficult for management to convince and seek commitment without knowledge of long term plan and intention behind the change
  • People prefer status quo and resist change. In case of management, it increases chance of conflict
  • It can lead to low morale and motivation of people as they may not welcome the change which is not the case if leadership initiates and communicates about the changes
