United Airlines- Introduction


United Airlines commenced its operation in the year 1931 and is now a major American airline, which means that it earns more than USD 1 billion in revenue during a fiscal year. The third-largest airline of the world has its headquarters at Willis Tower, Chicago. United Airlines has global alliances and also follows diversity, inclusion, and CSR goals and activities. The company claims to follow higher standards in safety.

Evolution to present state- The roots of United Airlines can be traced back to Varney Airlines (VLA), which was founded in the year 1926 in Idaho. William Boeing bought VAL (along with other companies including Pacific Air Transport) in the year 1929 and named the company United Aircraft and Transport Corporation (UATC). United Airlines Inc. was founded by UATC in the year 1931 and included the airline subsidiaries. A major merger took place between United Airlines and Continental Airlines in the year 2011, and United Airlines Holdings was the name given to the new company.

As of now United Airlines is the third largest airline of the world in terms of route network and fleet size and operates on both international and domestic routes. It is also one of the founding members of Star Airlines (founded in the year 1997), which is a collaborative group of 28 major airlines of the world. The regional airline service of United Airlines is named as United Express. The company has around 86, 000 employees and is a publicly-traded company having a market value of more than USD 21 billion.

Hubs and Fleet- United Airlines connects 238 domestic cities, and around 118 international locations spread in 48 different countries (in the five continents of the globe). Within the United States, it has 8 hubs, Chicago-O'Hare being the most important and largest hub with the largest number of passengers. The company only operates Airbus and Boeing aircraft, that total approx. 790 in number. The company was the first airline to get the delivery of a Boeing 787.

Seats and Products- The cabins of United Airlines have different kinds of seats, seating arrangements, and amenities for the customers.

United Polaris Business- These seats can be found in the cabins of Boeing 787, Boeing 757-200 and other aircraft. It is the largest airline in the world in terms of revenues, fleet size, kilometers covered, and the number of destinations covered. Headquartered at Fort Worth (Texas), the company operates more than 6800 flights every day and covers around 350 destinations (spread across 50 different countries of the world). America Airlines is the founding airline and member of the alliance by the name One World (founded in the year 1999) that includes prestigious airlines including British Airways. The company employs more than 130,000 employees and is publicly traded concern having a market value of $12. Billion.

Colonial Air Transport and Robertson Aircraft Corporation merged in the year 1929 to form the Aviation Corporation, which was rebranded as American Airways in the year 1930. Flagship First- Offered exclusively on Boeing 777-300 ERs. The spacious flagship first seats can be fully reclined and the service includes better food, aisle access, and other choices.

Flagship Business- the premium seats are offered on few airline aircraft including the Boeing 777-200 ERs.

Transcontinental- The Airbus A321s planes are used for transcontinental flights and feature lie-flat seats and better aisle assess.
