5. You are a consultant on a project team that has been hired by Techlo (a Fortune 100 company) to design and administer an employee survey. The survey contains information about employee job satisfaction, engagement and issues concerning pay and promotion fairness perceptions. The night before your presentation to the client, a Sr. Vice President of Marketing at Techlo calls you and asks you to send her the raw survey data for the Marketing department so she isn’t “surprised” by any of the report findings. You respond by saying that “the data are confidential” to which she responds by saying, “Of course! I’m not going to share it with anyone else!” How would you now respond/handle this situation?

6. You just received the following email message from the VP of HR at a boutique marketing firm. “Good morning, my name is Shelly Smith from Visibility Solutions. I’m the VP of HR and we’d like to see if you’d be interested in providing some leadership development training in mid-April. Specifically, we’re looking for about a 3-day training for Director level managers here in our training facilities at our west suburban offices. We want the training to be highly interactive and cover the following issues 1) characteristics of good leaders, 2) leading in times of change and 3) initiative and accountability. Let me know your thoughts. Perhaps we could chat by phone this afternoon? What are the most important questions you will have for Shelly when you talk on the phone?

7. You are conducting a series of interviews with staff members regarding their perceptions of a new pay and incentive system. Your goal in the interview is to learn about how people really feel about the system and thus trust in the integrity of your process is critical. When conducting staff interviews, what key pieces of information do you want staff to know about your consultation process?

5. I would respond saying that I could share the information only if the client permitted to do so. Hence, request her to talk with the client regarding the information sharing.

6. I would ask Shelly the following:

1. How many trainees are to be trained?
2. What is the agenda of the training? i.e. what does the company aim to achieve through training?
3. What are the expectations?
4. Any special or customized aspects to be covered in the session?

7. I would focus on following details during the consultation process with my staff:

1. How does the staff view the new pay and incentive system?
2. Do they have any doubts or queries regarding the same?
3. Do they feel comfortable about it? or have reservations or conflicting notions about the new system?
4. Are employees satisfied?
5. How effective do they feel the system is?
6. Is the new system transparent and trustworthy?
