Currently the vehicle dashboards are made of polymer material. This polymer mainly consists of PVC. Generally it has three layers...the bottom layer is glass- fibre reinforced thermoplastics, on the top of this is foam of polyurethane and the top layer is PVC. Moreover, dashboard covering is made with PVC blended with ABS.
The emerging trend towards materials for dashboard suggest that its moving towards fibre reinforced composite materials as it offers a wide range of advantage over normal polymer. And the objective of OEM to reduce the kerb weight of vehicle furthur makes it a suitable candidate for dashboard.
