The resistance of a resistor changes with temperature as per the following relation:

Rt = R0 (1 + at)

where R0 is the resistance of the resistor at 00 C, a is the temperature coefficient of resistance (in ohms / 0C ) and t is the temperature in 0C.

Thus by measuring the resistance in series with the bimetallic strip, the temperature change can be observed.

The correct option is (b) [ to anticipate heat changes ]
