Problem 19.72 (Multistep) A bent bar A 43 cm long high-resistance wire with rectangular cross section 7 mm by 3 mm is connected to a 12 volt battery through an ammeter, as shown in the figure. The resistance of the wire is 58 ohms. The resistance of the ammeter and the internal resistance of the battery can be considered to be negligibly small compared to the resistance of the wire. Leads to a high-resistance voltmeter are connected as shown, with the lead connected to the inner edge of the wire, at the top (location A), and the lead connected to the outer edge of the wire, at the bottom (location C). The distance along the wire between voltmeter connections is d = 5 cm. Meter 1 Ammeter Meter 2 27 Voltmeter 3 mm 7 mm wide 12 V battery thick
▼ Part 1 Your answer is correct. (a) On a copy of the diagram, show the approximate distribution of charge (Do this on paper. Your instructor may ask you to turn in this work.) (b) On a copy of the diagram, draw the electric field inside the wire at the 3 locations marked x,. (Do this on paper. Your instructor may ask you to turn in this work.) (c) What is the magnitude of the electric field at location B? 27.9 V/m the tolerance is +/-2%

▼ Part 6 Your answer is correct. (h) What is the mobility u of the material that the wire is made of? 1.4649E-5 (m/s)/(Wm) the tolerance is +/-2% SHOW ANSWER Attempts: 1 of 3 used Part 7 (i) Switch meter 1 from being an ammeter to being a voltmeter. Now what is the reading on meter 1, both magnitude and sign? the tolerance is +/-2%
