Answer #1

First we convert lbs to kg.

weight of the patient = 185 lb = 185 * 0.4536 = 83.90 kg

medication order for the patient = 5 ug/kg/min

So, total medication requirement for patient for their weight would be = 5 ug/kg/min * 83.90 kg = 419.50 ug/min = 0.42 mg/min

D5W per mg of Dopamine = 250/400 mL/mg = 0.625 ml/mg

Note that we have to make sure that multiplied quantities have units of same order

a) At 15 drops/mL

Drip rate per minute = 0.42 mg/min * 0.625 mL/mg * 15 drops/mL = 3.9375 drops/min

b) At 20 drops/mL

Drip rate per minute = 0.42 mg/min * 0.625 mL/mg * 20 drops/mL = 5.25 drops/min

c) At 60 drops/mL

Drip rate per minute = 0.42 mg/min * 0.625 mL/mg * 60 drops/mL = 15.75 drops/min
