Answer #1

Carbon tetrafluoride

(In the spectra of this compound only C-F bond will be present)

1400-1000
Carbon tetrachloride (only C-Cl bond absorption will be seen ) 850-550
Methane (C-H bond strech and O-H bond if water is present)

3550-3200 (o-H)

1320 around(C-H)

Ethane (3 peaks in standard charts)

3000-2850(C-H Stretch in alkanes)

1465 (C-H bending peak in Alkanes)

.Water(3 peaks)

3800-3000

1700-1500

900-700 (Finger print region)

Referring Standard IR data brings more understanding about identification of functional group in each spectra. The IR spectra is dividen into two regions :

  • Functional group Region
  • Fingerprint Region (100-500 cm-1) This region is not very useful as it is the interaction between the molecules in a compound and it doesn't help us
