The *nix command nm shows function names used in a program. Suppose you run nm on an executable file and discover that: “U _printf” - that is, the function printf() is undefined (the file does not contain code to implement this function). Yet, when you run the program, it runs perfectly well. How can this program run, if it still has undefined functions in it before being loaded into memory?

Answer #1

The bash have default version printf function defined, so if the user is not going to defined the definition of the printf function then default definition of the printf function will be used.

Therefore even if printf function is not defined in the program, still it will execute without any error by using the definition of the default printf function of the bash

Edit a C program based on the surface code(which is after the question's instruction.) that will implement a customer waiting list that might be used by a restaurant. Use the base code to finish the project. When people want to be seated in the restaurant, they give their name and group size to the host/hostess and then wait until those in front of them have been seated. The program must use a linked list to implement the queue-like data structure....

C Program In this assignment you'll write a program that encrypts the alphabetic letters in a file using the Vigenère cipher. Your program will take two command line parameters containing the names of the file storing the encryption key and the file to be encrypted. The program must generate output to the console (terminal) screen as specified below. Command Line Parameters Your program must compile and run from the command line. The program executable must be named “vigenere” (all lower...

Implement the histogram function to complete the desired program. You must use dynamically allocated arrays for this purpose. For your initial implementation, use ordered insertion to keep the words in order and ordered sequential search when looking for words. Note that the array utility functions from the lecture notes are available to you as art of the provided code. Although we are counting words in this program, the general pattern of counting occurrences of things is a common analysis step...

Background: For this assignment, you will write a small encryption utility that implements a simple encryption algorithm described below. The program will take one command line argument as an input; this will represent the word which is to be encrypted. As an output, your program will print the encrypted version of the word to the console using a simple printf() statement. This is the only output your program needs to produce. There is an important catch, however: your program is...

Write a c++ program in that file to perform a “Search and Replace All” operation. This operation consists of performing a case-sensitive search for all occurrences of an arbitrary sequence of characters within a file and substituting another arbitrary sequence in place of them. Please note: One of the biggest problems some students have with this exercise occurs simply because they don’t read the command line information in the course document titled “Using the Compiler’s IDE”. Your program: 1. must...
