When looking at the Rational theory, differential association theory, social disorganization theory, social learning theory, social control theory, and labeling theory:

what effect will arrest & one week of jail stay have on future offenders and criminal behavior? please state your answer in 300 words.

There are different theories on criminology. Study of that theories help us know about the behavior and change in the person when he/she is in prison. So the effects which can be on future offenders and criminal behavior who will be arrest and stay in jail for one week can be understand by the following theories:-

  1. The rational theory- it is also known as the choice theory. It is based on the framework of understanding the economic and social behavior. It believes that the aggregate behavior comes from the individual behaviors.
  2. Differential association theory- it states that with the communication with the people, individual learn the attitude, values, ethics, techniques and motivate for criminal behavior. It deals with how an individual becomes criminal. It ignore the fact about why they become a criminal but just focus on how.
  3. Social disorganization theory- this theory states that the crime rate is based on the neighborhood ecological conditions. If the ecological condition of the place where we are living are bad then it may give arise to the crime. The main focus of this theory is on the location. The location of the individual matters a lot.
  4. Social learning theory- it states that the new behavior is acquired by our surrounding. We learn from our surrounding. If we are in a bad and criminal company then we will learn same from that social group. We observe the other people and try to imitate them.
  5. Social control theory- this theory makes a person antisocial. It encourage to be socialize and try to do social learning. It can be of three forms indirect, direct and internal. People's relationship, values, beliefs and norms encourage a person to not break a law. Socialize people are scare of their reputation in the society so to maintain it they will not commit any sort of deviated acts.
  6. Labeling theory- this theory is based on the self dignity of the person. Self dignity is used to describe a person.
