The process here talked about is Transesterification. This process is similar to hydrolysis ,except that alcohol is employed instead of water. The rate of transesterificatin can be accelerated by using catalysts.
Many researchers have reported an alcohol to oil molar ratio of 6:1 to be the optimal ratio ,while some reported that maximum bio-diesel production was obtained at a molar ratio of 7:1 in transesterification of used frying oil. In bio-diesel production using waste cooking oils as raw materials, the main cost of materials are the cost of alcohol and catalyst.Since the catalyst is required only in minute amounts ,the primary cost would be the alcohol. Therefore if the use of alcohol can be reduced without significantly reducing the production of bio-diesel ,the production cost would be lowered and the process would be more cost effective . so it is suggested that a higher methanol to oil molar ratio was better than lower ratio in terms of soap formation as other combinations ratios produced low output. And hence we can say that the theoretical optimal amount is ranging from 6:1 to 15:1
why do basic heterogeneous catalysis require an alchol:oil molar ratio up to 15:1, higher than acid heterogeneous catalysis and base homogeneous catalysis in biodiesel production
Explain why a weak acid solution has a higher pH than a strong acid solution concentration. of the same Explain why the equivalence point of a weak acid titrated with a strong base occurs at a basic pH.
Consider the acid/base equilibrium of bromocresol purple shown in the image above. Why is the basic form of bromocresol purple violet, whereas the acidic form is yellow? Question 6 options: A) The basic form has more p-orbitals overlapping to form pi molecular orbitals and thus has larger conjugation than the acidic form. The more p-orbitals that participate in a conjugated system, the higher the energy of light absorbed. Hence the basic form absorbs shorter wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation than the...
You have titrated 25.0 mL of acid A with 65.35 mL of a 0.231 molar solution of base B. The mole ratio is 1 A = 1 B. What is the concentration of the solution of A?The answer is 0.604,but i don't know the process
Question: In the figure below, titration curves for strong acid
with strong base and weak acid with strong base are shown. Compare
the shapes of these curves early in the titration for three
different cases: titration of a strong acid, titration of a weak
acid with a lower pKa, and titration of a weak acid with a higher
pKa. Discuss with the class why the titration curve for weak acids
increase more rapidly early in the titration than do stronger...
