Looking at the website for the American Diabetes Association, take the Take Your Risk Test. Look through the website. Is there anything that you were not familiar with prior to looking at the site? How would you create a teaching tool with the information provided on the site?

One thing which is new and was not familiar with is the risk factors associated with diabetes .

#. Risk Factors for Diabetes

- age: older than 45

- obesity: weight > 120% of desirable body weight

- family history of type 2 in first degree relative

- hispanic, native american, african american, asian american or pacific islander

- history of previous impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG)

- hypertension or dyslipidemia

- history of GDM or of delivering a baby with a birth weight under 9 lbs.
