Determine whether the following should be classified as simple random, systematic, convenience, stratified, or cluster sampling.

1. Church members are each assigned a number and then a random-number table is used to select the members who will complete the survey

2. Ten students from every 8:00 MWF math class at Tech are selected to complete a survey

Answer #1

1)

In this situation , each church has equal number of chance to include in sample and sample point selecting using random numbers. So this is example of simple random sampling.

2)

In this situation , math classes are working as clustors and we are selecting sample points from then each clustor .

This is example of clustor sampling.

3)

In systematic sampling we include population units with number n, n+k , n+2k....... In given example we are using such technique to select sample points.

So this is example of systematic sampling .

4) suppose each dorm has equal number of students .

Then in such situation dorms working as groups ( strata) and we are selecting five students from each dorm . So this is an example of stratified sampling.
