Answer #1
  1. what are you going to measure?

I am going to measure the thickness of skinfolds in order to estimate the amount of body fat in your body at selected points with a pair of callipers.

2.what should they expect to feel for each measure?

we are measuring body fat in 7 sites, they are chest, midaxillary, suprailiac, abdominal, thigh, triceps and subscapular.

patient has to stand while doing measurements. usually taken from the right side.

I will pinch your skin with my forefinger and thumb and measure with callipers ( less than 1/2 inch from pinch), it may cause minor discomfort to you. I will take three measurements from each site, the result is the average.

3. How long does each measure typically take?

  • Take the skinfold measurement 4 seconds after the calliper pressure is released.
  • Take at least minimum of two measurements at each site. The acceptable range between repeated measures is 1mm. If the values vary by more than 1mm take an additional measurement and calculate the average.
