Answer #1

INTRODUCTION: The eye is a delicate structure that is easily damaged by a small foreign body. If a foreign body scratches or scars the eye surface, the patient may lose some or all vision in the injured eye. Eye protection should always be worn when particles or fluid could enter the eye.

ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY: Some common eye injuries such as deep puncture wounds due to accidents could require immediate treatment or surgery to prevent permanent eye damage resulting in vision loss. However, minor scratches need only simple monitoring after an initial visit to prevent from complications.

FIRST AID TREATMENT: Corneal abrasions are common causes of abrasions due to dust particles or due to the presence of foreign body causes eye redness and severe sensitivity to light. These should be treated by water or by saline solution. In case of deep penetrated wounds due to an accident or due to foreign objects, attempts should not be done to remove the objects which further increases the depth of the scar. In accidential injury, the person should follow these rules, a) try not to roll their eyes b) should be rest in the position of greatest comfort with the injured eyes with no movement c) cover the injured eye with a clean eye pad or wound dressing to avoid pressure. Donot attempt to remove the objects from the position. d) Advice the patient to close the uninjured eye to avoid further movements of the injured eye.
