1. a) EMR is electronic medical record system . It is an electronic record of health related information of a patient that can be created ,gathered ,managed and stored by staffs within a healthcare organisation. These records can be shared across different health care setting for better health care service provision .

Benefits of electronic medical records include better health care including :-

- patient safety

- healthcare service effectiveness

- patient centeredness

- communication

- education

- timeliness

- efficiency

- equity

b) EMRAM - Electronic medical record adoption model . It is an eight stage model that measures the adoption and utilisation of electronic medical record functions and tracks the progress against other healthcare organisation around Europe and across the world .

The stages 0-7 include :-

- 0) All three ancillaries not installed

- 1) Ancillaries like laboratory ,pharmacy ,radiology /cardiology . Information systems - PACS ; Digital non DICOM image management .

- 2) CDR; Internal interoperability ; Basic security

- 3) Nursing and allied health documentation ; eMAR; Role based security.

- 4) CPOE with CDS ; Nursing and allied health documentation ; Basic business continuity.

- 5) Physician documentation using structured templates; Intrusion / device protection.

- 6) Technology enabled medications , Blood products , and human milk administratio; Risk reporting , Full CDS .

-7) Complete EMR; External HIE; Data analytics , Governance, Disaster Recovery , Privacy and Security.
