Acute Diverticulitis
An infection and the inflammation of diverticulum is called as diverticulitis. Diverticulum means a small growth off an organ such as the large intestine.
Sample meal plan for Mr. Harry Truman with acute Diverticulitis:
Low residue diet
( Residue means the left over substance after digestion, or the undigested food. Diverticulitis can treated with antibiotics and a low fiber diet helps in relieving the symptoms. But the patient should be in NPO ( nothing by mouth) for some days followed with clear liquid diet,when he gets the acute Diverticulitis. )

skimmed milk 1 cup or decaffeinated coffee( with cream and sugar )

Cooked and canned fruit or carrots

Baked potato ( skin less)
cooked vegetables without seed,skin and stem( carrots, mushroom,beets) ( 1/2 cup)
Fruit cocktail ( canned)

Vanilla wafers or plain cakes
custards
Cranberry juice 1 glass
( wholegrain cereals, brown bread, fried foods, caffeinated beverages, chips, skins of potato,apple etc should be avoided in the meal plan )
