Answer #1

The formula of formal charge is:

Formal charge = [# of valence electrons] – [electrons in lone pairs + 1/2 the number of bonding electrons]

For O:

# of valence electrons for O = 6

It has one bond.

So, number of bonding electrons = 2

It has 3 lone paints.

So, electrons in lone pairs = 6

Formal charge =6 - (6 + 1/2 * 2)

= 6 - 7

= -1

Answer: -1
