Tollens test can distinguish aldehyde and ketone. Tollens reagent react with only aldehyde.

Chromate also distinguish between aldehyde and ketone.

Ketone : No change in the orange colour

ALdehyde : Orange solution turns green

IR spectroscopy also can distinguish between them.

Answer is Solubility in water or alkaline water

Both are soluble in water can not distinguish between aldehyde and ketone
