For which of the following three 1 litre solutions will the smallest mass of precipitate be formed when the solution is treated with excess of Potassium Chloride

ans) All three solutions will form identical amount of precipitate

Explanation:

i) One molar solution of AgNO3

AgNO3 + KCl ----------> AgCl + KNO3

The resultant product AgCl (Silver Chloride) is formed as the white precipitate. When one mole of AgNO3 reacts with excess KCl will leads to the formation of one mole of AgCl.

ii) One molar Solution of Pb(NO3)2

Pb(NO3)2 + 2KCl ------> PbCl2  + 2KNO3

when 1 molar solution of Pb(NO3)2 reacts with excess KCl will give the products of 1 mole of PbCl2 which is a white precipitate, and 2 moles of Potassium nitrate.

iii) One molar Solution of Hg2(NO3)2

Hg2(NO3)2   + 2KCl --------> Hg2Cl2 + 2KNO3

The reaction between one molar solution of  Mercury (I) nitrate reacts with excess Potassium Choride will give 1 mole of Mercury(I) Chloride as a white precipitate, and Potassium Nitrate as Products.
