Solution:

Efficiency (\eta) of steam engine is calculated as,

\eta = (T2 - T1) / T2

Given, T1 = 15 °C + 273 = 288 K

T2 = 150 °C + 273 = 423 K

Thus,

\eta = 423 - 288 / 423 = 135 / 423

Efficiency (\eta) of steam engine is also related with heat absorbed (Q) and work (W) as,

\eta = W / Q

W = Q x  \eta = 5500 J x (135/423) = 1755.32 J

W = 1755.32 J
