Water is polar solvent then the molecule with more polar characteristic will be more soluble in water.

Here, Aldehyde (A) is more polar than alcohol (B).

Therefore, (A) to be more soluble in water.

C6H14 is a non polar solvent then the molecule with less polar characteristic will be more soluble in C6H14.

Here, (C) with small carbon chain is more polar than (D) with large carbon chain.

Therefore, (D) to be more soluble in C6H14.
