This is absolutely right and makes sense as well. Why would there be sales force employees who do not understand technology in an organization where without IT the organization cannot exist?
But, understanding tech does not someone able to understand the technical requirements of creating tech.
The first and foremost reason for a CIO tagging along is to get first hand information about the clients/customers, their needs and how can CIO with his team contribute more effectively to serve the client in a better way.
In companies where IT is an important part, creating the best customer experience digitally is the key. In many cases it can make or break. Making these experiences a reality can only be possible if there is an arrangement where the CIO is working closing with the sales/marketing teams. It is not a time thing too. A short term association cannot make this a reality in the rapidly changing technological environment.

Sales Force Management Ron Deaple considered all his opinion. As key account sales manager for Cutting Edge Technology (CET), a London-based manufacturer or special purpose computer circuits, he was responsible for sales and support of the company’s most important customers. The company’s most important business was to manufacturers such as Dell and Lenovo as well as other product companies such as Samsung. Ron’s position made him ultimately responsible for the relationship with these customers. Key account managers at CET were...
Marketers are innovative when it comes to product positioning. Part of product positioning is differentiation, a way of showing how a product is unique from its competitors. Analyzing and selecting a positioning strategy can mean the difference between success and failure for a new or existing product or service. Brand ambassadors, such as celebrities or other well-known icons, sports figures, or mascots, have become product endorsers to capture the customers' attention in advertising and social media campaigns. Two examples include...

Why companies are advertising their master brand Recently, both Hershey and Coca-Cola have switched to a master brand strategy. Instead of promoting, for example, Hershey’s Syrup, chocolate bars, and Hershey’s kisses separately, the company is running an advertising campaign that unites all Hershey branded treats in a single commercial, emphasizing the corporate brand name over individual product lines. While companies that operate multiple business units or multiple product lines have always had the option of employing a master brand strategy...
All too often, I have seen senior managers stick their heads into the sand when, instead, they need to take their heads out of the sand and be redirected to where the roses are... and smell the darn things. Where are the roses? At the customers. I have often espoused in both undergraduate and graduate marketing courses that it is all about the customer. The concept of customer-centric companies is bannerized everywhere. Executives speak it, marketers ballyhoo it, and textbooks...
