Answer #1

given that

mass m1 = 140 kg

m2 = 440 kg

m = 46 kg

gravitational force between two objects F= Gm1m2/r^2

let distance x from the 140 kg

f1 = f2

Gm1m/x^2 = Gm2m/(d-x)^2

(d-x)^2/x^2 = m2/m1

(d-x)/x = sqrt(m2/m1)

d/x-1 = sqrt(m2/m1)

d/x = 1+sqrt(m2/m1)

x/d = 1/1+sqrt(m2/m1)

x = 0.36/1+sqrt(440/140)

x = 0.13 m

distance from the 440 kg is 0.36-0.13 = 0.23 m
