1. Rh incompatibility is the pathophysiology behind Jake's condition. Jake's blood is Rh negative and Mike's blood is Rh positive . After the first blood transfusion the Rh antigen on the surface of Mike's blood induces formation of anti - Rh antibodies in Jake's blood .
2. Now Jake's blood has developed fully functioning anti - Rh antibodies after first transfusion against Mike's Rh positive blood and it gets attached to the Rh positive red blood cells of Mike and destroys the red blood cells by identifying it as foreign due to presence of Rh protein hence leading to hemolysis ( break down of red blood cells ) causing hemolytic anemia .That's why Jake went to anaphylactic shock .
