Mary owns a home that she rents out to a tenant. The home was part of a presidentially declared disaster area, and the tenant was unable to occupy the home for two months and did not pay rent for these months. No Mary Cannot claim loss of income on her federal Taxes. Landlords can claim deduction for things like repairs, insurance,depreciation on rental property,Contractors. For the purpose of deduction under casualty losses there should be loss of property like destruction of property and as the income was not actually earned by mary it is not added to the taxable income also.
