Answer) Routine vaccinations are recommended for adolescents to prevent a series of diseases. Vaccines that should be given are as follows-

  • Tetanus vaccines must be given at 10 years of interval. It should be given at the age of 11-12 years, irrespective of other vaccinations.
  • Measles vaccines must be given at the age of 11-12 years.
  • Apart from this, vaccines for hepatitis A and hepatitis B should also be given at the age of 11-12 years of age to prevent these diseases.
  • If adolescents are having a history of chickenpox, they must be given a dose of varicella virus vaccine at the age of 11-12 years.
  • The adolescents who have a history of diseases that are associated with influenza must be given influenza vaccines every year.
  • Pneumococcal vaccines must be administered for adolescents who have a chronic illness.
