Answer #1

Q1) The average rate of gas is given by

rate = [8RT/(pi)M]1/2

Here both the gases are at same temperautre , thus removing the constant terms

VNh3/ V H2 = [MH2/MNH3]1/2

Substituting the given values

649m/s / V of H2 = [ 2/17]1/2

average velocity of H2 = 1892.13m/s

Q2)

According to Graham's law

rate of difusion is inversely proportional to square root of its molar mass.

Thus

Rate (Ar) / Rate (NH3) = [ MNH3 /M Ar]1/2

3.33x10-4 mol/h /rate NH3 = [ 17/40]1/2

Thus rate of effusion of NH3 = 5.1x10-4 mol/h
